Do I have to be a Grand resident to take classes?

No, the Grand Learning Program is available to anyone interested in our classes, lectures and other offerings.

What is the difference between Create Account for Grand Learning and Registering for Classes and Lectures?

Creating Account is the one-time sign-up process that gives you extended access to events and information regarding SCG Grand Learning activities. The process is simple. We'd just like to have your name, email address, and telephone number in order to notify you of new or changes in events that you're interested in. Of course, you can make changes as needed.

Registration is our term for reserving your space for specific courses and events, whether they are free or have modest fees. You must be enrolled in SCG Grand Learning in order to register for activities.

What are the fees?

  1. Class fees range from $10 to $20.
  2. Cooking classes held in off-site restaurants will have special fees.
  3. Some special lectures and promotional events will have no fees.
  4. Typical lectures will have a fee of $5.
  5. A $3 Service Charge will be applied to each invoice. (See Helpful Tips below on how to reduce this fee).

The online registration system makes signing up for our classes and activities more convenient for you and will greatly decrease the administrative time.  However there is a $3 fee for separate transactions.  That fee goes directly to ASAP, the company that created the registration software, so we can’t absorb the cost.  The fee is per invoice, not per class.

How can I minimize my registration fees?

Can I attend lectures or other activities without being enrolled in the Grand Learning Program?

Sorry, no. You must be enrolled before you can register for any classes or lectures. It's free. Why not do it? In fact, you can do it online, or come to the Grand Learning Office in the Chaparral Center during Office Hours to receive assistance, or call 623-546-7521 where we can verbally enroll you with the assistance of a program Ambassador.

Is registering required for all Grand Learning activities – including classes, lectures whether free or fee-based and any other activity?

Yes, but, we've made online registration straight simple and fast. You can still come to the Grand Learning Office in the Chaparral Center during Office Hours and receive assistance.

How can I minimize transaction fees?

Can I bring a guest to class with me?

What if I registered for a lecture and can’t attend?

Think of your registration for a lecture as a “ticket”.  If you can’t use it, perhaps you can find a friend who can.  There will be an Ambassador at the door verifying that people who enter have registered for the lecture.  Just have your friend tell the Ambassador he/she is checking in for you.  The Ambassador will ask for your friend’s name and let him/her enter in your place.

What if I registered for a class and can’t attend some sessions?

We have busy lives and things do come up that are unexpected.  If you have to miss a class – no problem we don’t take attendance and it won’t affect your “grade” since we don’t have grades.  You can let the instructor know if you wish, but it’s not required.

I may not be able to attend a few of the sessions of a class I signed up for.  Is it possible, with the permission from the instructor, to have a friend attend in my place?

When it comes to attendance, we think of classes differently than lectures.  That's why we outlined a procedure for having someone fill in for you for a lecture, but don't provide that option if you have to miss sessions of a class.  Our rationale?
